...to the Sea

I am finally posting the second half of our vacation. We headed to the beach at Sea Isle City in New Jersey. This is such a pleasant beach and very near the boardwalks of Atlantic City, Wildwood and Ocean City, N.J. Of course it was raining when we arrived again and the humidity was like the Amazon. This is what happens when you set up camp in the rain. At least my romper was fabulous.

The weather did clear up the next day and was beautiful the rest of the week.

We headed for the beach. I found my bathing suit on Ebay.

The pattern sort of reminded me of the Pennsylvania Deutsch tulip pattern



We've been coming to this beach since my kids were babies. This is the first time in 25 years it was just Larry and me. Sort of bitter sweet.

I love people and I love meeting all sorts of folks. This was Michelle. Her Camper was a work of art.

We also got to eat at one diner we've been wanting to for years but just never got around to it.

In case you can't see it on the sign, that and the back of the waitresses shirt says "Eat here...Get gas"

Bye bye to the beach and Summer is on it's way out. I will miss Summer but I think Autumn is my favorite time of year.

Yesterday's frock was also a glorious favorite of mine. I came home sick, but snapped these pictures quick before collapsing in bed.

I bought this frock about 20 years ago and still love it. I've re-sewn the button holes several times to keep the buttons snug (so I'm not flashing anyone inadvertently).

I've grown and shrunk with this dress. It has a tie in the back to adjust the bodice.

I thought if I put a flower in my hair that morning, it would make me feel better. Didn't work...

From the Mountains...

Back to our vacation, we spent three days in the Pocono Mountains with my son and his fiance'. Of course it rained for the first day and night but that doesn't stop us.

I wanted to make a stew with biscuits in the fire but had to cook it on our little camp stove since it was too wet to get a fire going. It still was very good.

We also did stuffed tomatoes topped with cheese. I didn't have bread crumbs so I crushed up corn flakes and added to the top. I thought it was actually better than bread crumbs.

When the weather finally cleared, we headed to Bushkill Falls for some hiking. We've done the longest trail to all of the falls several times so me and dad just took our time wandering around the main falls.

My favorite camping shirt is made from men's handkerchief material and trimmed in silver rickrack. I had to get off this walkway quickly. It was only supposed to hold six people and there were definitely some people on it that counted as two people.

This was our waitress, Ruth. She works at a diner we like to go to in the Poconos. I admired her angel pin and we started talking. Ruth is a double cancer survivor. Go Ruth!

And here is my hubby, son and his fiance' rescuing a tiny frog that got trapped in our kitchen tarp when we were packing up.

I don't know how he even saw it. It was so tiny. He was always dragging things like this home when he was little. He's now an Earth & Space Science Teacher.

Frock Friday Already!

Being on vacation has totally thrown me off schedule! I was all dressed for work this morning in slacks and was making a quick check of my blogger friends and saw Helga Von Trollop looking sumptuous in her blue frock. I ran upstairs and changed immediately.

How could I be so forgetful?

My frock was op-shopped at Goodwill, tights from Gabriel Brothers and the necklace from Fashion Bug.

I have great plans to gather all my broken jewelry and make some necklaces like this. I can't bear to throw out jewelry and prefer to re-purpose it.

 My ring is another turquoise piece of mine from the 70's

I really do need to get some turquoise colored nail varnish.

Steel Town Irish Pub...

Part one of our vacation started on our way to the Poconos Mountains of Pennsylvania. We are campers from way back and still rough it sometimes. Although we've added a nice big air mattress to the list of necessities the last couple of years. We look for interesting eating places when we're traveling, trying to avoid the usual chain restaurants. I'm not sure what town this pub was in, but it turned out to be pretty good for just picking a place.

It was in a town that used to be a steel town. Now the steel mills are no more and next to the rotting buildings with broken windows are huge gaudy casinos where people feed their money into one armed bandits.

We were fairly close to Philly, so I took a chance and got the Philly cheese steak wrap and some cider. It was very good and this picture doesn't do it justice. The secret to a good Philly cheese steak is to keep it simple, just thin sliced beef, cheese whiz and maybe some onions, but that's it! I was living on the edge by getting one in a wrap. Normally they are on a sub roll. The proper way to eat it is to stand and hunch forward so the grease doesn't drip down the front of you. Yummmmm.

I am off to a good start on my holiday! Full tummy, a little too much Cider and a comfortable op shopped jumper.

Vacation Day Begins!

The work day before vacation begins is always the longest day of the week. I decided to make it a fun day by wearing a fun outfit.

My blouse was from Goodwill, the skirt is Mode Merr and the patterned fishnets from Gabriele Bros.

My cherry headband was a gift from Peanut of Miss Ruth's and the earrings are mine from forever.

I found these Liz Claybourne shoes at Goodwill for $6.00. They are all leather (so sorry PETA) and fit like a glove. I can wear them all day with no problem.



I really wanted to post this last week as that is when we left for vacation, but didn't have the time. Plan B was to pirate someones WIFI and post on the road. Seems folks are being more stingy with their wireless nowadays. Oh well, better late than never.

Recovering Black Clothing Addict

In my effort to brighten up my wardrobe and wean myself off of all the black in my closet, I bought this at the Goodwill. I saw it in the window on the dummy and it looked like my size. I made them strip the mannequin and I'm glad I did! A little leopard print bag goes with any outfit.

I haven't been wearing necklaces because of the heat. I remembered that I had these plastic necklaces left to me by my mother-in-law and they were perfect and light.

I've had that silver slave bracelet since forever.
